Methanol (CH₃OH), often referred to as industrial alcohol or wood alcohol, is a colorless, flammable liquid used in a wide range of industrial applications. It is the simplest alcohol, composed of a single carbon atom attached to three hydrogen atoms and one hydroxyl group (-OH). Methanol is commonly used as a solvent, antifreeze, fuel, and in the production of chemicals like formaldehyde and acetic acid.

Solvent: Used in paints, varnishes, and cleaning products.
Fuel: Used as an alternative fuel in racing cars and for industrial applications.
Antifreeze: Used in automotive antifreeze and windshield wiper fluid.
Chemical Production: Methanol is a key raw material in the manufacture of formaldehyde, acetic acid, and other chemicals.
Energy Source: Can be used to produce biodiesel.
Despite its industrial uses, methanol is highly toxic if ingested, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin. It can cause symptoms like dizziness, headache, nausea, and in severe cases, blindness or death. It should always be handled with caution.
